Disability and access affect almost every situation and every business. In the case of Walberg Design, an independent graphic design firm based in Seattle, developing access for visually impaired customers through web technology was an evolutionary step for the design firm.

We Will Find Away and Walberg Design worked together on increasing access to websites for people who are visually impaired. Research revealed there are multiple technologies available that make this process cross-platform. quick, easy, and consequently inexpensive. Walberg Design has gone on to develop multiple websites to create text to speech options where the user has to only click on a speaker icon to hear the text on the screen.

Prior to working with We Will Find A Way, Peter’s and his clients had not considered this issue high on the list of budget priorities. But now with the exposure to the available technology and the experience of working with WWFAW in considering a visibly impaired viewers needs, the issue of accessibility is introduced in the planning and development stage, and has become an inclusive and valuable asset in creating successful websites.

With 56 million people with disabilities in the United States and millions more aging baby boomers it is imperative for business to be as accessible as they can. It is not just about brick and mortar businesses and making the entrance wheelchair accessible; it is a wide range of issues that assist all of use in engaging the material on websites and other electronic resources. It is good for people and it is the right thing to do.

There are few symbols which indicate a business cares about people with disabilities but the WWFAW sticker and icon offer visual proof that a business is aware and cares. They may not be 100% ADA compliant yet, but that they are working to be more accessible. Walberg Design is one of those businesses who cares! Peter, the owner, is to be recognized and saluted!
